Finally – she makes cupcakes!!

Life has been busy!  Yesterday slowed down a bit, so I went with one of my friends to get a pink pedicure, took a few naps and fell in love with my fiancé again during our first meeting with our wedding DJ.

I’ve had the idea to bake for a few weeks now, but always take the time to rest my head and body instead.  Important – but there is something therapeutic in baking.

Today was rainy so I chose to bake 😀

It felt so wonderful to wear my cute little cupcake apron and get my hands covered in flour!  When was the last time I baked?!  I was happy that my oven cooperated with me, too.  I made matcha cupcakes, which I didn’t have time to frost…. But I did make chocolate cupcakes with a creamy, ooey-gooey peanut butter frosting.  Those were yummy and I brought them to our bible group tonight.

Today was a great day for self care – just hung out in my jammies and baked cupcakes until I needed to leave the house.  This girl can’t complain!

Cupcakes with Momma

My mother came to visit me for a weekend and I made sure she experienced some yummy cupcakes! She wasn’t a fan of Trophy (not pictured) but did enjoy some goodies from Cupcake Royale. I enjoyed it all 😍  Spoiled to have such an awesome momma and cute yummy cuppies!

Carrot cake, coconut, lavender, lemon drop & maple bacon whiskey! *DROOL*

Carrot Cupcake The Divine

When I was visiting my momma, her hubs got these DELICIOUS cuppies from a local bakery. They were as follows:

  • Buttery, melty in mouth
  • DELICIOUS
  • Frosting was light cream cheese and perfectly sweet

Oh my gosh I was dying and simultaneously in cupcake bliss!

A little while ago I visited my sweethearts family and hung out with his sis around her birthday. It was lovely fun and I had a great time hanging out with them by myself. When we visit, it usually is a ‘we’ but this time I was able to love on them all by myself! 😍 I think I had just come off a stretch of work so I couldn’t make cupcakes like I so wanted, but promised the birthday lady that I would make some. I tried making pumpkin and then chocolate pumpkin but my canned pumpkin from TJs made the cake all spongy. Talk about AWFUL! So instead I made a yellow cake with a light whipped cream frosting. Not too bad considering I was in the kitchen all day and wanted to burn my apron by the time I was done. Kidding! Only kidding…. My apron is way too cute for that ☺️

I purchased the super cute boxes from Williams/Sonoma on sale!! Very study, very cute and they came with normal size inserts as well as inserts for mini cupcakes! Happy with the purchase. I think I still have two colors left!

Great to be back in the kitchen baking even if I failed a few times ….. Gotta start from somewhere, right? I think it was even more lovely that I turned my oven on and didn’t die from overheating! Hello beautiful season of autumn I adore you!!

Rosewater ruffin’

Several days ago I had the exciting idea to use my rosewater I accidently bought at home goods. You know the gourmet food section…. I can usually find a treasure or two!

Confession: I actually went to home goods for dresser knobs. Eh, like my sister said, close enough!

I happily found a rosewater cupcake recipe in one of my beloved cupcake recipe books. Sigh. It looked lovely in text. I also researched a few recipes online just so I could expect all the magical wonderfulness…. I love floral and was over the moon that I could create fancy little cakes complete with the sweet aroma of roses.

Can you sense my excitement?

Well. I’m going to be real with you. HUGE FLOP.
NOT FANCY.

I don’t know what it was or what I did wrong (I studied the recipe like my little life depended on it) but they didn’t even taste like anything. Just bland little white cakes.
All I am taking from this disappointing experience is that it can only get better. What’s that cliche? Practice makes perfect? Everyone needs a failure?

I couldn’t even bring myself to frost these dainty little blandies because of my overwhelming cupcake depression. Should have made those chocolate cupcakes with tangerine frosting. Damn you rosewater – you blinded me with your romance and left me in the wind. Wah.

I will return with a rosewater cupcake vengeance!

Trophy

Well, to say that I have been slacking on both my blog and the magic of making (and eating) cupcakes is such an understatement.  Truth is that the last week was spent having fun in the spring sunshine and the three weeks before that was basically spent with my miracle babies and awesome coworkers.  The last sweet yummies I had the privilege of nomming on were from Trophy Cupcakes!  Which I believe I read in Seattle Mag – best cupcakes around!  I believe it!

Because sharing is caring….  Enjoy my pathetic attempt of this post and I will do better next time.
